Indoor or outdoor antenna for DAB radio?

Before acquiring an antenna for receiving DAB radio, whether it is for DAB1 or DAB2 (DAB+) digital radio, it is worth investigating how good the signal is. There are still places in Denmark where reception is difficult and the signal strength can be decisive for the choice of antenna for DAB radio. In many places in Denmark, DAB radio can be received on an indoor antenna. Elsewhere, it will be necessary to acquire an outdoor antenna for DAB radio signals.

On the coverage map for the distribution of DAB and DAB+ radio signals, you will be able to see how well DAB signal you have at your address. You will also be able to see the calculated coverage for indoor DAB antenna and outdoor DAB antenna respectively. When using coverage maps, there are a few caveats and things to know:

- the map with DAB radio coverage is based on calculations. Therefore, there may be conditions that, despite good coverage according to the map, you do not have good signal. These are typically local conditions such as large buildings.

- The outdoor coverage map is based on your outdoor DAB antenna being located at least 1.5 meters above ground.

- You are not expected to use a DAB radio antenna with amplifier. If you live in an area where there is a lack of coverage there's a chance you can still receive the signal if you use a DAB antenna with amplifier.

- if you have low-energy windows and the antenna "peeks" through the window to have a direction towards the transmitter mast, be aware that low-energy windows dampen the radio signal sharply. The reason is that low-energy windows are coated with a metal coating that attenuates the passage of radio signals.

The coverage map is easy to use. Enter your address and choose what you want to see coverage for (indoor or outdoor antenna, DAB1 or DAB2 transmission network). You can find the coverage map here (Danish): Coverage map DAB and DAB+ digital radio signals
